BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg University came away with a sweep in tennis action on Saturday as both the men's and women's teams defeated the University of the Sciences 9-0.
On the men's side, junior Fernando Perez (Center Valley, Southern Lehigh) and sophomore Ricky Dove (Port Matilda, State College Area) combined to post an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while each had 6-2, 6-0 victories in No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively. Sophomores Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill, Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) teamed for an 8-2 No. 2 doubles win and freshman Brandon Cummings (Tallahassee, FL/Chiles) and junior Alan Hummel (Manhiem, Hempfield) had an 8-3 No. 3 doubles victory. Each of those Huskies swept their singles matchups.
In women's action, senior Alison Carney (Muncy, Warrior Run) and sophomore Emily Palko (McMurray, Peters Township) teamed for an 8-3 No. 1 doubles victory, while sophomores Kristen Bonito (Bridgewater, MA, Coyle Cassidy Memorial) and Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, St. John The Baptist) had an 8-1 No. 2 doubles win and sophomore Jen Huston (Randolph, NJ, Randolph) and junior Sarah Starkey (Murrysville, Franklin Regional) had an 8-2 No. 3 doubles victory. Senior Katie Hasyn (Lansdale, North Penn) had a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, while Carney, Palko, junior Andrea Malatesta (Berwick, Berwick) and Walsh had 6-0, 6-0 wins in their singles matches.
The Huskies comeback on Tuesday to play a home match with Wilkes at 3:30 p.m.
