No. 13 Women's Soccer Falls at Gannon

Box Score

ERIE--A go-ahead goal from Gannon's Tenyka Francique in the 84th minute sealed the Huskies' fate as the No. 13 Bloomsburg University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Wednesday evening. The loss is BU's first of the season and snaps a four-game winning streak, dropping the Huskies to 5-1-1 (4-1 PSAC) on the season, while Gannon improves to 3-4-2 (2-4-1 PSAC).

The Lady Knights jumped on the board first in the 34th minute. A crossing shot from Andrea Eisenhart off a pass by Lexie Mastro slipped by Bloomsburg keeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) to put Gannon up 1-0. The Huskies were held to just two shots in the first half, both of which were stopped by Gannon's Sabrina Chirco in net.

In the second half, the Huskies put on the pressure early. After Chirco saved Bloomsburg's first two shots, junior
Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre, Holy Redeemer) served up a corner kick that was redirected by classmate Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) to even the score less than five minutes into the second half.

Most of the remainder of the game featured back-and-forth play, and with the clock winding down, it seemed that overtime was likely. Then, with less than six minutes remaining, Gannon's Francique found a pass from
Amanda Sharbaugh and put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Lady Knight's a 2-1 advantage and the eventual win over the nationally-ranked Huskies.

Nicoletti tallied seven saves in net for the Huskies, while Chirco had eight on the day for Gannon.

Bloomsburg returns home this weekend for a match against PSAC foe Mercyhurst on Saturday, October 2, at 2 p.m.
