Wrestling Team Falls to Pitt on Sunday

Huskies lose 22-8

Frank Hickman scored a 7-6 win at 157 pounds for the Huskies
PITTSBURGH—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to 23rd-ranked Pittsburgh on Sunday by a score of 22-8. The loss dropped the Huskies to 11-5, 0-3 in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL), while Pitt improves to 9-6, 2-0 in the EWL.

The Huskies dropped the four matches of the day, including two, two-point losses at 125 and 133 pounds. At 125 pounds BU's Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) lost in sudden victory 2 after Pitt's Anthony Zanetta scored a takedown. Along with the Panthers win, the Huskies were also penalized a team point for a technical violation.

At 133 pounds the Huskies Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) led 3-1 going into the third period, but a takedown and a three-point near fall gave the Panthers Shelton Mack the win.

Trailing 13-(-1), Bloomsburg's Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney) rebounded from a loss on Friday to post a 7-6 win at 157 pounds. Behind 3-2 going into the third period, Hickman scored a reversal and later a takedown to go up 6-5. After an escape by Tasser tied the score, Hickman won on riding time for the Huskies.

At 165 pounds Bloomsburg's Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) dropped a tough 4-1 match to Ethan Headlee. Tied 1-1 in the third period Headlee scored a takedown and got riding time to earn the win.

Bloomsburg's Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) posted a win at 174 pounds by a 5-2 score. All the scoring came in the first two periods with Dessino getting an escape and a takedown in the middle period to score the victory.

At 184 pounds Bloomsburg's Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) lost 3-1 in sudden victory. In regulation both Graham and Max Thomusseit scored escapes. In the sudden victory Thomusseit picked up a takedown 18 seconds in to post the win.

The Huskies picked up their third win of the day at 197 pounds when Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) won 7-4 at 197 pounds. In a wild third period Perry recorded an escape and three takedowns to rally from a 1-0 deficit.

At heavyweight BU's Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) lost 6-1 to seventh-ranked Ryan Tomei.

Bloomsburg is back in action Friday at 7 p.m.at Clarion.
