Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) recorded a career high 17 tackles in today's contest.
After winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, Shippensburg kicked off to the Huskies to start the game. Starting from their own 30 yard line, the Huskies ran the ball three straight times for a first down before punting the ball away four plays later.
Shippensburg took over at their own 32 yard line and would drive 55 yards on 13 plays. The drive was capped by a Drew Newcomer field goal from 30 yards out with 7:22 left in the first quarter.
Bloomsburg started their next drive on their own 12 yard line. The Red Raiders forced a punt after a Bloomsburg three-and-out. Dan Fisher came in to punt from deep in his own end zone. The sophomore punter connected on the punt, sending it all the way to Shippensburg 44 yard line.
The Huskies defense stopped the Red Raiders in their tracks, forcing a three-and-out. Shippensburg punted the ball back to the Huskies where Bloomsburg took over at their own seven yard line.
On BU's second play of the series,
Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) broke loose for a 69 yard gain, putting the ball at the Ship 28. Four plays later Frankly Quiteh punched it in from 18 yards out just five seconds into the second quarter. Dan Fisher hit the PAT to put the Huskies up 7-3.
After the kickoff, Shippensburg started their drive at their own 23. Red Raider quarterback Zach Zulli led the Shippensburg all the way to 17 yard line before facing a fourth and ten. Rather than going for three, Shippensburg went for it on fourth and long but came up short as the Huskies took over on downs.
Bloomsburg was forced to punt the ball to Shippensburg after six plays. Shippensburg started their next drive at their own 29 yard line. The Red Raiders again put together a good drive, going 66 yards on 14 plays but the drive would come to a halt as Drew Seigfried intercepted a pass in the end zone. The Huskies took over at their own 20.
Neither team scored as the half came to a close with Bloomsburg holding a slim lead, 7-3.
Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) rushed for 84 yards on 8 carries in the first half, with a long of 69 yards.
Shippensburg opened the second half with the ball on their own 34. On nine plays the Red Raiders covered 51 yards in just 2:24, leading to a 32 yard field goal from Newcomer. Newcomer's second field goal of the day cut the Husky lead to one.
Bloomsburg's offense stalled on their next series as the Huskies punted the ball away after just six plays. Shippensburg started their next drive at their own 20 after a Dan Fisher punt landed in the end zone. From there the Red Raiders orchestrated an 80 yard drive on just eight plays for a touchdown. Shippensburg quarterback Zach Zulli hit a streaking Zack Kinney for a 34 yard touchdown score. Kevin Herod came in to attempt a two point conversion but his pass was broke up by a pack of Huskies, brining the score to 12-7 with 7:44 left in the third.

Ryan Dickerson (Harleysville/Souderton) for a 54 yard bomb that went for a touchdown. On the drive Bloomsburg only needed five plays to cover 74 yards in 2:12. Fisher came in for the PAT to make it 14-12 with 5:26 left in the third.
After the kickoff Shippensburg would be forced to punt after nine plays as the Husky defense held strong. Nate Schmidt's punt for the Red Raiders was a good one as the ball dribbled its way to Bloomsburg one yard line before being downed by a Shippensburg player. A big defensive play on the drive was
John Pettine (Gilbertsville/Archbishop Carroll)'s seven yard sack on a Ship second and ten.
Starting from their own one yard line, the Huskies went to Mateo four straight times as the sophomore running back brought Bloomsburg out to their own 27. Quiteh got the handoff on the next play but was stuffed at the line of scrimmage, bringing up a Husky fourth and one as the third quarter came to a close.
Bloomsburg lined up to punt to start the fourth quarter, but a direct snap to blocker
Matt Cox (Lewisberry/Red Land) led to a 61 yard run and a Husky first down. Quiteh would get the ball on the next two plays, rushing for six yards and a Bloomsburg third and four.
On third down
Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) dropped back and lofted a perfectly throw pass to
Matt Marchioni (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) in the left corner of the end zone for a touchdown and a 21-12 lead with 13:14 to play. The Husky drive covered 99 yards in just nine plays.
Shippensburg started their next drive at the 27 yard line and brought it all the way to the Bloomsburg 36 before turning the ball over on downs. From there the Huskies drove 49 yards on seven plays, leading to a Dan Fisher field goal from 39 yards out with just 6:54 to play.
Shippensburg would go three-and-out on their next series as
John Pettine (Gilbertsville/Archbishop Carroll) and
Ryan Olaf (Danville/Danville) opened the drive with a sack of quarterback Zach Zulli. Zulli would throw two more incompletions before they were forced to punt.
Starting with great field position at their own 42 yard line, the Huskies again looked to put together a scoring drive. It would be another Carey to Marchioni connection that produced a 35 yard touchdown and a 31-12 lead with just under three minutes left in regulation.
The Red Raiders would put together another scoring drive on their next possession, going 73 yards in 1:55. Shippensburg quarterback Zulli hooked up with Zack Kinney for a 38 yard touchdown pass. The point after was no good after a fumbled hold, bringing the game to 31-18 with just 51 seconds to play.
After a failed onside kick attempt the Huskies took over at their own 46. Quiteh rushed for five yards on the first play and after a Shippensburg timeout would get the ball again, this time he went untouched for a 49 touchdown score. Bloomsburg would take the game by a final score of 38-18.
BU senior quarterback
Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) had a big day, throwing for 201 yards on 15 completions and three touchdowns.
Matt Marchioni (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and
Ryan Dickerson (Harleysville/Souderton) had 61 yards and 62 yards respectively, accounting for all three touchdowns.
Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) rushed for 129 yards on 16 carries to go along with a season long 69 yard rush while
Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West) went for 105 and two touchdowns. Fullback
Matt Cox (Lewisberry/Red Land) also added a 61 yard run on a fake punt.
Defensively
Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) led the way with a career high 17 tackles and two pass break-ups.
Vince Browning (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) added another nine tackles and three pass breakups.
John Pettine (Gilbertsville/Archbishop Carroll) recorded one and half sacks for a total loss of nine yards.
The Huskies will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to take on West Chester in a PSAC East showdown next Saturday, October 22nd. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
