Huskies Fall in Double Overtime to No. 4 Cal, 2-1

Box Score BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team (8-6-1, 6-5-1 PSAC) dropped a heartbreaker in double overtime this afternoon to the No. 4 Vulcans of California (Pa.) (12-0-2, 9-0-2 PSAC), 2-1.  Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre/Holy Redeemer) scored the Huskies lone goal late in the first half.

In the first half California fired off 12 shots to Bloomsburg's five with both teams putting four of their shots on target.  The Vulcans had the wind at their backs in the first half which allowed for California to dump the ball deep into the Huskies defensive end, keeping pressure on Bloomsburg.

Despite the windy conditions, the Huskies broke through as Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre/Holy Redeemer) put Bloomsburg up 1-0 in the 41st minute.  Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) set up the goal as she delivered a low cross to Adams who one-touched a shot past the Cal goalie for a one goal lead.

Bloomsburg's lead was short-lived as Erin Feltz buried a shot from the 18 into the left side of the net, tying the game at one a piece in the 44th minute.  Chelsea Norbuts was credited with the assist.  The game would remain tied entering halftime.

California outshot the Huskies again in the second half, 12-7 with Cal putting put four of their shots on frame to Bloomsburg's two.  Neither team would register a goal, resulting in overtime.

The first overtime period failed to produce a score but in the 115th minute of play in the second overtime, the Vulcans broke through with a goal.  Chelesea Crockett delivered a long through-ball pass up the middle where Carley Work was left with a one-on-one with BU goalie Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield).  From there Work placed a shot past Nicoletti on the left side of the net for the score.

Nicoletti finished today's contest with eight saves while Cal's Paula Jackson came up with five.  The Huskies will look to bounce back from today's loss as they travel to take on IUP in PSAC action on Saturday, October 22nd.  Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m.
