Women's Soccer Play to Tie with Gannon

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's socer team played to a 0-0 tie with the Golden Knights of Gannon University on Wednesday night in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) matchup. With the tie the Huskies go to 5-3-1, while Gannon is 5-3-3.

Bloomsburg came out early in the game with a shot 15 seconds into play. The Huskies would have another shot at the 15:19 mark when Jamie Vaniver (Holland, Council Rock South) hit the post, followed by another shot from Caroline Mountney (Flourtown, Springfield). Bloomsburg would fire six shots in the first half, while Gannon had three.

Gannon came out on the offensive attack early in the second half, but the ball was sent wide of the net. The Huskies would keep play in Gannon's end throughout the second half with a 4-2 shot advantage and 2-1 corner kicks. Both teams would remain scoreless at the end of regulation play.

The Huskies had potential to get the game-winning score late in the first overtime, but a header from Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central), but Maggie Brinkham made the save with less than a minute left.

In the second overtime session goalie Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) made a save to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Bloomsburg will be back in action on Saturday, October 8 when they travel to Mercyhurst for another PSAC matchup. Game time is set for 4 pm.
