HILTON HEAD, SC - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team fell to Wingate University by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday morning. It was the second match of a four match spring break trip.
In doubles play, Bloomsburg dropped matches at all three positions. After getting off to a strong start at number three doubles, freshman
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and senior
Alan Hummel (Manhiem/Hempfield) lost to the pair from Wingate 8-5.
After the doubles session, the Huskies were ready to rally in singles, but were unable to gain momentum. Senior
Jack McClurkin (Collegeville/Spring-Ford) put forth a solid performance, surging from a 5-0 deficit, facing two match points in the second set to tie the set at 5-5, but unfortunately lost the match by a final score of 6-2, 7-5.
“It was a learning experience that the players will improve from,” said head coach
Marty Coyne, “We're using these first opportunities to be outside as a chance to improve for the rest of our season back home.”
With the loss, the Huskies are now 2-1 with their next match scheduled for Wednesday morning against the Tusculum Pioneers from Tennessee.
