Men's Tennis Team Drops Pair on Sunday

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Sunday at the BU Duals. The Huskies lost to West Virginia Wesleyan, 5-2, then fell to Bluefield State,5-4.

In the match with West Virginia Wesleyan (WVW) the Huskies went on top 2-1 after doubles play was completed. The Huskies got wins from Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) who were 8-5 winners at number one, and Alan Hummel (Manhiem/Hempfield) and Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) at number three who scored an 8-2 win.

In singles action WVW won four of the six matches that were finished to score the 5-2 victory.

Against Bluefield State the Huskies trailed 2-1 after doubles play with the team of Dove and Schroeder scoring the Huskies first point after winning 8-4 at number one.

In single play, the Huskies tied the score at 2-2 when Schroeder won 6-3,6-1 at number two. Bloomsburg took a 3-2 lead when Jack McClurkin (Collegeville/Spring-Ford) won in straight sets at number five,6-4,6-2. Bluefield State came back with wins at number four and one to go back on top 4-3.

Bloomsburg's Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scoreda 6-3,6-3 win at number four to knot the match at 4-4. Down to the final match, the Huskies Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) lost a tough three set battled 6-2,1-6,7-5.

The Huskies, now 9-5, will host Bucknell on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the regular season finale.
