Men's Tennis To Play for PSAC Title

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team posted a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Millersville University on Thursday in the semi-finals of the 2011 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Men's Tennis Championships on Thursday. The Huskies will face Kutztown, a 5-0 winner over Mercyhurst, for the PSAC title on Friday at 9 a.m.

The Huskies led 2-1 after doubles play with Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) winning 8-4 at number one and Alan Hummel (Manhiem/Hempfield) and Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) winning 9-8, 8-4 in the tie-breaker, at number three.

In singles play the Marauders rallied and went on top picking up a win by injury at number two singles to tie the match at 2-2. After the Huskies briefly regained the lead with a win by Nuhfer at number three, 6-2, 6-1, Millersville won at both five and six singles to lead 4-3.

The Huskies though got a big win from Jack McClurkin (Collegeville/Spring-Ford) at five who posted a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5 in the tie-breaker) victory. McClurkin and Ryan Knarr traded points, till McClurkin put away Knarr by winning the final two points of the tie-breaker.

With the match down to number one singles, Dove closed out his opponent in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, to send the Huskies to the finals.

Bloomsburg is now 10-5 and will Kutztown, 12-4 for the PSAC title.
