MORGANTOWN,WV--The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team lost to Kutztown, 5-4, later Sunday night in the first round of the NCAA Atlantic Region championships. The match was played indoors in Morgantown, WV. The Huskies season ends with a record of 10-7.
The Huskies won at number one and three doubles to lead 2-1 after doubles action.
Jack McClurkin (Collegeville/Spring-Ford) and Rick Dove teamed at one to win 8-5, then
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) and
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) at number three rallied from being down 6-3 in their match to post an 8-6 victory.
In singles action Dove, playing at number one, avenged a loss in the PSAC championship match to Kaushik Das by beating the PSAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Year in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Nufher, moving up to number two in the lineup due to an injury, scored a 6-3, 6-1 win, to Bloomsburg one match away from winning.
Bloomsburg though dropped matches at five and six singles setting up number three as the deciding match. Wexler, playing at number three, won the opening set 6-4, then lost 7-6 in the second set. In the third set Wesxler lost 6-0 ending the Huskies season.
