Walczuk's Goal Lifts Huskies Past Clarion

EAST STROUDSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Clarion in a game played at East Stroudsburg University.

The Huskies controlled play right from the start with Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre/Holy Redeemer), Caitlyn Raynes, Lauren Stedman (Garnet Valley/Garnet Valley) and Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) doing a great job of keeping the ball in the Bloomsburg offensive zone.

Clarion had the first real good shot on goal with 28:00 left in the half, but BU goalie Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) making a great save punching the ball over the top of the goal.

Bloomsburg finally broke through on a corner kick when Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre/Holy Redeemer) lofted a perfect kick to Walczuk who headed the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles had a great scoring chance go by the wayside early in the second half. After a shot, Nicoletti had a great save with the ball bouncing off of her. Clarion's Laura Domena was there for the follow-up, but her shot went wide left of the goal.

Bloomsburg had a chance to add to its lead with just over 11 minutes to play, but a shot by Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) hit the crossbar.

For the Huskies Nicoletti finished with five saves. As a team the Huskies outshot Clarion 15-8.

With the win the Huskies improve to 2-1, 1-1 in the PSAC, while Clarion falls to 2-2,0-2 in the PSAC. The Huskies will be home on Wednesday hosting Millersville at 5 p.m.
