WEST CHESTER—The Bloomsburg women's soccer team fell this afternoon in double overtime against the #10 Golden Rams of West Chester University, 2-1. With the loss Bloomsburg drops to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in the PSAC while the Golden Rams improve to 4-0-2 and a 2-0-2 in PSAC play.
Neither team would register a goal in the first half but West Chester would have ample opportunities as they outshot the Huskies 16-2. BU goalie
Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) came up with seven saves in the first half, keeping the game scoreless.
In the 56th minute of the contest Bloomsburg would break the scoreless tie as
Samantha Fox (Southampton/William Tennet) drilled a header into the back of the net off a corner kick cross from
Katy Fexa (Allentown/Parkland). This was Fox's first goal of the 2011 season.
The Huskies did a good job keeping the West Chester offense at bay as the Golden Rams fired off another 20 shots in the second half with Nicoletti making another 12 saves.
As regulation came to a close, it looked as though the Huskies would sneak away with a 1-0 win. However, West Chester's Jen Hutchinson would score with 1:42 left in the game to tie the contest at one a piece.
Two overtime periods would be played as the Golden Rams walked away with a 2-1 win as Kim Shoup scored the game winner. BU's Nicoletti came up with 19 saves in the contest which tied the college record for most saves in a single game.
Bloomsburg will look to bounce back as they host Bridgeport in a non-conference game on Tuesday, September 20th. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Sports Stadium in Bloomsburg, PA.
