Women's Indoor Track Team Finishes Second at Class of 32 Invite

HAMILTON, NY—The Bloomsburg University women's indoor track team claimed a second place finish out of six teams at the Class of 32 Invite at Colgate University.  Kelsey Davis (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Rebecca Canderan (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) were Bloomsburg's two individual event winners as they took first in the pole vault and 500 meter dash respectively.

Head Coach Bernie Empie on today's event:
“I was very happy with our teams today.  For only our second meet back after Christmas break, we are making good improvements.  The energy and enthusiasm our athletes showed today really started to get contagious as the meet progressed.  One good performance seemed to fuel another as both teams watched their team points pile up.  I am excited for our teams to race next week at the GaReat facility in Geneva, OH.  It is a 300m indoor track and should create some very fast times.”

Rebecca Canderan (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) was a first place finisher in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:20.49.  Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) came in third in the event with a 1:20.92 time as the two runners totaled 16 team points.

Kelsey Davis (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) took home first and second place honors in the pole vault and triple jump.  Her 3.20 meter jump in the pole vault was good enough for first place, beating the second place finisher by .75 meters.  In the triple jump she was second, jumping 10.15 meters.

Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) was a second place finisher in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:19.72.  Her second place finish added 10 team points for Bloomsburg.

Bloomsburg placed four runners in the top 10 of the one mile run with three of the runners contributing points to the team score.  Victoria Davis was a fourth place finisher with a PSAC qualifying time of 5:14.26.  Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) and Samantha Matthews (Windsor/Glenelg) came in sixth and seventh place with times of 5:23.72 and 5:29.02 respectively.  Filemyr's time was a PSAC qualifying time as well.  Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH/Hudson) was a ninth place finisher with a time of 5:33.56.

The Huskies had another two runners finish in the top 10 in the 200 meter dash in Rankin and Valerie Homer (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South).  Rankin was a fourth place finisher, running a 27.39 and Homer was in sixth place with a 27.70 mark.  Amber Stephan (Gettysburg/Gettysburg)'s PSAC qualifying time of 1:02.13 was good enough for sixth place in the 400 meter dash.

Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) and Kate Dodds (Ambler/Upper Dublin) were top 10 finishers in the 800 meter run.  With a PSAC qualifying time of 2:25.99, Lehman took home fourth place while Dodds was an eighth place finisher with a time of 2:30.55.

Bloomsburg's distance medley team of Lauren Bond (Hatfield/North Penn), Martina Drew (Langhorne/Neshaminy ), Davis and Filemyr took home second place with a time of 12:47.59.
