Box Score BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to Shippensburg University Saturday at Sports Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
The Huskies (4-7-1overall, 2-6-1 PSAC) went on the attack early when
Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) shot past the Shippensburg goalkeeper, but had the ball hit the cross bar in the 35th minute.
The Lady Raiders (5-5-3, 3-5-2) scored the first goal of the match with 18 seconds left of the first period when Carolyn Smith lofted a shot over BU keeper's head to make the score 1-0.
Bloomsburg scored the tying goal in the 72nd minute when
Caitlin Raynes (Pennsburg/Upper Perkiomen) pitched the ball into the middle off a corner kick and
Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) headed the ball to the back of the net.
Shippensburg scored the game winning goal during the first overtime off a free kick to win the game 2-1 in the 105th minute.
In goal for the Huskies,
Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington/Villa Joseph Marie) made a career-high 12 saves. She made two back to back saves a minute a part from point blank range to push the game into overtime putting her season total saves up to 85.
A late offsides call revoked a Bloomsburg goal with 2:30 left in the second half which would have put the Huskies in the lead.
Shippensburg outshot Bloomsburg 19-7 and had a 7-5 advantage in corners for the match.
Bloomsburg hosts Millersville Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. in PSAC play.
