BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team notched a 3-2 victory after a hard fought battle against Lock Haven, Saturday at Sports Stadium.  The win marks head coach Paul Payne's 100th with the Huskies.

Anthony Manero (Richboro/Council Rock North) scored the game winner late in the second half off a penalty kick for the Huskies (6-5-1, 1-2-1 PSAC).  Manero placed the ball low left on his kick shooting it past the goalie to make the score 3-2.

In the first half, Lock Haven scored first in the ninth minute.  Bloomsburg answered back with a goal of its own nine minutes later.  Fran Miller (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) found the ball in front of the net and shot it past the LHU goalie.

Bloomsburg attacked the goal in the second half scoring in the 57th minute when Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) stole the ball from the Bald Eagles and passed it down the middle to Miller who fired his shot at the left post making the score 2-1.

The Bald Eagles (5-5-1, 2-3 PSAC) scored with 17 minutes left on the clock to tie the game, 2-2.  Jacob Oldaker scored both goals for Lock Haven.

Manero's penalty kick put the Huskies in the lead and helped them close out the milestone victory for head coach Paul Payne.  He is the university's all-time leader in coaching victories.

Saturday's match also marked the fourth Red Card Cancer game, a program Paul Payne initiated in 2009.

“Red Card Cancer continues to grow at all levels of soccer here in the U.S,” said Paul Payne. “Last year Red Card Cancer events were held in 15 different states at youth tournaments, high school and college games and again for the 3rd year at a MLS DC United match.  Over $25,000 was raised in 2011 and we know that amount will continue to grow this year and beyond. Cancer does not discriminate and through research being done at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, Red Card Cancer hopes to find cures for the different types that affect us all.  Hopefully with your help 'Together Can Make a Difference'”

The Huskies are back in action Tuesday at California of Pa. with a 2:00 p.m. start.
