BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's swim team coasted past Albright College 147-104, Saturday Dec. 8 at the Nelson Field House pool on senior day.
The Huskies (5-4 overall) had three new PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) qualifying times; one by
Jess Quittner (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) in the 100-breaststroke clocking a time of 1:11:09, and two by
Jenna Yohey (Berwick/Berwick) in the 100-freestyle at 55:00 and 100-butterfly at 1:01:98.
Four swimmers qualified for six new PSAC events.
Alicia Frey (Ellicot City, MD/Wilde Lake) in the 500 and 1000-free swimming the long distance race in 10:51.11falling second to Bridgit Hilferty who clocked 10:40:44.
Frey also clocked a cut in the 200-back at 2:14.41 coming in first for the event.
Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg/Avon Grove) achieved a PSAC cut in the 1000-free at 10:53:87,
Madeline Barlow (Yardley/Pennsbury) in the 100-breststroke swimming the event in 1:11:35, and
Morgan Johnston (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) in the 200-IM clocking 2:15.64.
Kristina Halner (Chalfont/Archbishop Wood) swam a career best in the 100-free at 56:89 and also in the 200-free where she clocked 2:03:43. Barlow had a career best in the 100 breaststroke at 1:11:35. Yohey also swam a career best at the meet in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55:00 seconds.
The Lions' (5-3 overall) head coach John Stuhltrager is a BU swimming alumni and graduated Bloomsburg in 1990. Assistant coach Ian Walsh was the graduate assistant for Huskies swimming from 2010-2012.
The Huskies recognized eight seniors and their parents prior to the meet; Barlow,
Ashley Bauer (Temple/Muhlenberg),
Kelsey Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico), Julia Devincent,
Jacquie Glaser (Easton/Easton), Hilferty,
Mel Redican (Dresher/Upper Dublin), and
Kayla Weisenbach (Lincoln University/Avon Grove) were acknowledged for their dedication to Bloomsburg swimming throughout their years at the University.
Bloomsburg has 24 out of 26 of their female swimmers with a PSAC championships qualifying time.
The Huskies will take some time off for the Holiday break and are traveling to Florida next for winter training in January where they will compete in open water swims.
