Record Setting Day for Women's Indoor Track Team

DAY ONE RESULTS

EDINBORO—It was a record setting day for the Bloomsburg University women's indoor track team at the 2012 PSAC Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Championships at Edinboro University. On the day the Huskies set four school records and won PSAC title in the 4 x 800 relay.

As a team the Huskies are sixth with 18 points.
 
The Huskies capped a great day by capturing the 4 x 800 relay title in school record time of 9:25.87 with the team of Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt), Lauren Bond (Hatfield/North Penn), Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) and Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs). The group shattered the old school of 9:47.01 set back in 2011 and won the title by over three seconds over second place Edinboro.
 
The day started with the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of Victoria Davis, Jessica Segeleon (Bridgeville/South Fayette), Martina Drew (Langhorne/Neshaminy ) and Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) taking third in a school record time of 12:12.71. The group broke the old mark of 12:13.08 set earlier this season.
 
In the 400-meter dash prelims, Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) qualified for Sunday's finals in school record time of 58.40 seconds. She broke her own record of 58.91 set earlier this season.
 
In the pole vault the Huskies Kelsey Davis (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) set a school record with a mark of 3.45 meters (11'3 ¾”). She broke the record of Ashley Mancil (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) set in 2011.
 
Finishing eighth in the women's 5000 meter run was Samantha Matthews (Windsor/Glenelg) in a time of 18:03.14, while posting personal best marks were Kelsey Harm (Boothwyn/Cardinal O'Hara) who was 10th in 18:20 and Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH/Hudson) in 11th in 18:23.60.

"It was a fantastic opening day for us," said head coach Bernie Empie. "Our DMR team really got things started off great.  Our ladies just kept the momentum as the day progressed."

"Our opening day point total surpasses our final point total from last season by 13 points,
Empie commented. " I am excited for the second day to begin. There are plenty of opportunities to push the total even higher.

Action resumes on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Edinboro.
