McShay Sets Two School Records on Sunday

COMPLETE RESULTS

EDINBORO—Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) set two school records on Sunday to lead the way for the Bloomsburg University women's indoor track team at the 2012 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Championships at Edinboro University. Overall the Huskies set three school marks on Sunday and finished seventh as team.

McShay, the school record holder at 5,000 meters and was part of the last night's winning 4 x 800 relay team, set the school record in the mile finishing third in a time of 5:02.53. She broke the record of 5:03.63 set in 2008 by Andrea Kellock.

Later in the day McShay came back took down another of Kellock's records, this time at 3,000 meters. McShay finished fourth overall in 10:04.18 seconds. The number bettered Kellock's 2008 mark of 10:14.87 by more than 10 seconds. Also surpassing the old record and nearly getting the record was Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) who finished just behind McShay in 10:04.52. Vicki Davis (New Ringgold/Schuylkill Haven) was eighth overall in 10:09.71, a time that also would have bettered the old record.

In addition the Huskies 4 x 400 relay team, while finishing ninth overall, broke the school record with a time of 4:03.51 with the team of Rebecca Canderan (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City), Amber Stephan (Gettysburg/Gettysburg), Jessica Segeleon (Bridgeville/South Fayette) and Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham). The old mark of 4:04.84 was set by the same group earlier this season.

Individually Rankin took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 58.52 seconds.

“It was an exciting weekend for the Huskies,” said head coach Bernie Empie. “Our women performed super.  It's nice to have as many PR's and school records as we did, but it is even more satisfying to have those performances materialize into team points.”

“We have made some big strides since last year at this time and with so many under classmen scoring points, it gets me excited for the future of Bloomsburg University track and field.”

The Huskies took seventh as a team finishing with 39 points. A year ago the team was 13th of 14 teams with just five total points.
