Men’s Tennis Blanks Endicott in Spring Break Opener

BOX SCORE

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team thumped Endicott University by tallying a 9-0 win over the Gulls.  Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) dropped just two games in singles and doubles play as he improved his season win total to 11.

Bloomsburg got off to hot start in doubles play as the Huskies took all three matches.  Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and Dove teamed up at first singles for an 8-1 win while the team of Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) and Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) earned an 8-5 win at second singles.  Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) blanked their opponents 8-0 at the third spot.

The Huskies carried their momentum from doubles into singles play as Bloomsburg won all six matches with just one going beyond two sets.  Dove was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at first singles while Nufher picked up a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the two spot.

At third singles Schroeder breezed through the first set 6-0 but had to work in the second as he pulled out a 7-5 win in a tiebreak.  Schroeder's win was his first of the 2011-12 season.

After dropping his first set by a break, Pultro fought back to win his match at the fourth spot, 4-6, 6-0, 10-4.  DiSanto gave up just three games in his 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles while Evan Carney (West Winfield, NY/Mt. Markham) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Bloomsburg will be back on the court today as they take on Winston Salem State in a 3:00 p.m. match.
