BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team extended their win streak to six matches as they downed Wilkes University (4-2), 8-1. With the win Bloomsburg improves to 7-2 on the season.
Bloomsburg used a strong effort in doubles to take all three matches.
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) teamed up at first doubles to win 8-3 while
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) fought their way to an 8-5 win at third doubles. The second doubles combination of
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) and
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) trailed by a break for most of the match but were able to break back midway through and late in the match to eventually earn a 9-7 win.
In singles play Bloomsburg tallied victories at the first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. Dove was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at first singles giving him 11 wins since Bloomsburg's spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, SC.
Wexler came through with a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles while Schroeder made quick work of his opponent at the fourth spot winning 6-1, 6-1.
Pultro came on strong in the second set after a close first set as he won 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles. At sixth singles DiSanto pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 win to give the Huskies an 8-1 win over Wilkes.
Bloomsburg will be back on the courts this Saturday, March 24th as the Huskies take on Edinboro. Match-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Edinboro, PA.
