Women's Track and Field Team Opens Outdoor Season

LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University women's track and field team opened its 2012 outdoor season by taking part in the Elliston Early Bird Invitational at Lock Haven University on Saturday. The Huskies had five athletes earn PSAC qualifying times at the event.
 
Taking first place in two events was Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) who won the 200-meter dash in 26.81 along with the 400-meter dash, and posted a PSAC-qualifying time in the event, with a mark of 59.07. In the 800 meter run Lauren Bond (Hatfield/North Penn) took first in 2:31.62, while at 3000-meters Kaitlin Heller was first in 11:05.82.
 
In the Steeplechase Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) took first in a PSAC-qualifying time of 11:18.7, while Kelsey Harm (Boothwyn/Cardinal O'Hara) also qualified for PSAC's in the event with a time of 11:46.0.
 
At 5000-meters the Huskies had two PSAC qualifiers with Samantha Matthews (Windsor/Glenelg) running an 18:13.04 and Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) with a time of 18:23.11.
 
Taking first place in the shot put was Tayler Harkins (Lansdale, North Penn) with a throw of 10.89 meters/35'8 ¾”, while the 4 x 400 relay team of Rebecca Canderan (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City), Jessica Segeleon (Bridgeville/South Fayette), Kate Dodds (Ambler/Upper Dublin), and Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) running a 4:12.33.
 
The Huskies will be back in action on March 31 at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University.
