MERCYHURST—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team extended their win streak to eight matches as they defeated Mercyhurst, 7-2. Bloomsburg now owns a 9-2 overall record and a perfect 2-0 mark in the PSAC.
The Huskies swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. At first doubles
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) pulled out a tight 9-7 victory.
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) and
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) breezed through their opponents at the second position with an 8-1 win. Meanwhile the third doubles team of
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) ran through their opponents with an 8-1 showing.
In singles action Bloomsburg dropped just two matches en route to a 7-2 victory. Wexler was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the third position. With his doubles win he has now won 11 consecutive matches. At fourth singles Schroeder pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 win for his fifth straight singles victory of the season.
At the fifth spot Pultro made quick work of his opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1 while his doubles partner DiSanto rolled at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Combined, the duo won 32 of 35 games played against the Lakers.
Pultro has won 14 consecutive matches; nine straight singles victories and five straight doubles wins with DiSanto. It is the longest streak of the 2011-12 season.
The Huskies will be back on the courts this Friday, March 30th as they host Millersville University in a PSAC showdown in Bloomsburg, PA.
