BOX SCORE
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team tallied their ninth straight win as they downed Millersville, 8-1. With the win Bloomsburg now improves to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
Bloomsburg got off to a hot start as they swept the doubles matches, winning 24-of-34 games played. The first doubles team of
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) earned an 8-3 win while the second doubles combination of
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) and
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) won 8-4.
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) rounded out the doubles wins with an 8-3 showing at the third spot.
The Huskies' dominant play in doubles translated into solid singles performances as Bloomsburg took five of six matches. Dove posted his 13th singles win of the season as he tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win at the first position. Meanwhile, doubles partner Schroeder needed three sets to pull out his sixth singles win of the year, winning 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.
Wexler, Pultro, and DiSanto demonstrated Bloomsburg's depth as they combined to win 36-of-37 games at the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots respectively. DiSanto was the only one of the three not to put up double zeroes as he earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
Bloomsburg's Nuhfer dropped his match at the two spot but not for a lack of effort. The senior played one of the most exciting matches of the season as he fell in 6-3, 7-6. On the surface it may not look like much but the second set tiebreaker, which is decided by the first player to reach seven points-win by two, was won by Millersville's Henry Ben 24-22.
The Huskies will be back in action on Monday, April 2nd as they host West Chester in PSAC action. Match-time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Bloomsburg, PA.
