BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team (12-3, 5-0 PSAC) maintained their flawless conference record this afternoon as they defeated Kutztown University (5-5, 2-1 PSAC), 7-2. With the win Bloomsburg will enter next weekend's PSAC Championships as the top seed.
Today's win over avenged last year's losses to the Golden Bears in the conference championship and first round of the NCAA Regionals. The win also snaps a six-match losing skid to Kutztown and Bloomsburg's first win over Kutztown since the 2007-08 season.
Bloomsburg took two of three doubles matches as they picked up wins at first and third doubles.
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) teamed up for an 8-1 drubbing at the first spot. At third doubles
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) downed their opponents 8-2. With the win, Pultro and DiSanto improve to 11-4 as a doubles combination, the best record of all of BU's teams this season.
In singles action, the Huskies won five of six matches to for a 7-2 win over Kutztown. Dove was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at first singles, improving to 15-5 this season with an 11-4 mark in dual matches.
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) rallied to win a third set super tie-breaker and claim his eighth win of the year as he won 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 at third singles. His doubles partner,
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh), rolled at the fourth spot 6-0, 6-3. Wexler is 9-1 in his last 10 matches and boasts a 10-2 overall singles record.
Pultro, also 9-1 in his last 10 matches, rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the five spot. He is tied for the team lead in singles wins at 15 with Dove. At sixth singles, freshman DiSanto picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win. He has won eight of his last 10 matches.
Bloomsburg will be back on the courts this Saturday, April 14th as they participate in the Bloomsburg University Duals. The Huskies are scheduled to play West Virginia Wesleyan at noon on Saturday.
