BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team (13-4, 5-0 PSAC) fell to no. 44 Bluefield State (16-4, 8-0 WVIAC), 5-1. The Huskies took one of two doubles matches but the Blues of Bluefield tallied three singles victories for the win.
In doubles action,
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) took down the no. 6 regionally ranked doubles team of Vlad Catlan and Niklas Sparr. The Bloomsburg duo earned an 8-6 win as Dove held serve to close out the match. Together they have won 11 matches this season, second most of Bloomsburg's doubles teams.
Bluefield picked up an 8-5 win at second doubles as
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and
Jeff Nuhfer (Warren/Warren Area) lost by a break. Meanwhile, the third doubles team of
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) also fell by a break, losing 8-6.
Bloomsburg would go down 4-1 in the match as the Blues tallied wins at sixth and fifth singles. They would eventually take the match 5-1 as Vlad Catlan edged Bloomsburg's Schroeder in three sets.
With the match decided, the three remaining matches were left unfinished. In those matches, Dove and Wexler both split sets at first and third singles respectively. At fourth singles Pultro took the first 7-5 and was trailing 5-3 in the second when the match came to a conclusion.
The Huskies will be back on the court this Tuesday, April 17th as they host the Bisons of Bucknell University in a 4:00 p.m. match at the Bloomsburg Tennis Courts.
