BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team (11-3, 4-0 PSAC) had their 10 match win streak snapped today by the Patriots of George Mason University (13-6), 9-0.
Despite not winning a match, today's contest was much more competitive than at first glance. Four of six singles matches were decided in three sets and two of the three doubles matches were won by a single break.
In doubles play
Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College Area) and
Mark Schroeder (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) fell 9-7 at the first spot while
Tyler Pultro (New Britain/Central Bucks West) and
Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) lost by a break as well at third doubles, 8-5.
Just like in doubles, the singles matches would be played at a high level as four matches were pushed to super tiebreakers for the third set. After losing the first set 6-4, Dove thumped his opponent in the second 6-1 but would eventually fall 10-6 in the third.
At second singles, Schroeder pulled out a close 6-4 first set which was followed by him dropping the second at love. The third set was decided by just two points at he lost 10-8 in a super breaker.
Lee Wexler (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) took the first set of his match at fourth singles in a tiebreaker but lost the next two 6-3, 10-4.
DiSanto played in the other three set match. Like Schroeder and Wexler, DiSanto claimed the first set by winning 6-2. However, he would fall in the second 6-1 and eventually 10-5 in the third.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday, April 10th in a 3:30 p.m. match against PSAC rival Kutztown University.
