Hilferty and Wysong Earn New Cuts as Women’s Swimming Splits Dual Meet

INDIANA – Senior Bridget Hilferty (Royersford/Perkiomen Valley) and freshman Chelsea Wysong (Flourtown/Springfield) added onto their list of qualifying marks Saturday evening as the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team split its pair of dual meets at the Crimson Hawk Invitational Saturday afternoon hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Huskies (7-5) defeated Gannon, 209-119, and fell to Indiana (PA), 205-126 on the second day of the two-day invite. It was Bloomsburg's first win over Gannon dating back through the 2000-01 season, while also avenging a loss to the Golden Knights earlier this season.

Bloomsburg set two new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks in the morning session.  A total of 22 cuts, both new and existing were made Saturday.

Morning Session

Bloomsburg swam four season-best, PSAC marks in the morning session.  A total of 12 cuts were made Saturday morning.

Freshmen Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg/Avon Grove) and Alicia Frey (Ellicot City, MD/Wilde Lake) finished second and third in the 400-IM, respectively.  Both swimmers turned in PSAC qualifying cuts in the previously qualified event, however, McIlmoyle's mark of 4:45.47 was a season-best mark and an improvement by more than a second.

Senior Madeline Barlow (Yardley/Pennsbury) led three top-four Huskies in the 100-fly.  Barlow won the event in 1:01.09, followed by Erin Cannaday (Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) in second (1:01.21) and Jenna Yohey (Berwick/Berwick) in fourth (1:02.00).

Junior Mollie Dawson (Coatesville/Coatesville) swam a season-best qualifying time in the 200-free.  She finished in third place in the event in 2:00.78, an improvement by .05 seconds.  Senior Ashley Bauer (Temple/Muhlenberg) finished behind Dawson for fourth in the 200-free (2:01.53).

Junior Ali Luzik (Halifax/Halifax) put together a season-best swim in the 100-breast.  She improved by more than a full second as she won the event in 1:09.10.  Wysong finished third in the 100-breast in 1:10.35, an already established PSAC qualifying time for the freshman.  Wysong improved on her qualifying time in the time trials of the 100-breast, finishing in a season-low 1:09.49.

The 800-free relay team of Ashley Dix (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley), Hilferty, McIlmoyle, and Julia DeVincent (Ambler/Upper Dublin) won the event over Gannon in a close finish.  The Huskies turned in a mark of 8:02.18, defeating the Golden Knights' 'A' team by .33 seconds.

Evening Session

The Huskies posted two new PSAC qualifying marks and 10 total cuts in the evening session.

Hilferty earned her sixth overall cut of the season Saturday evening.  In a new event, Hilferty finished second overall in the 200-back in 2:16.54 for a PSAC time.  Her other five qualifying times are freestyle events.

Cannaday won the 200-fly in a season-best 2:11.11.  The sophomore has PSAC qualifying times in the 100- and 200-fly this season.

McIlmoyle won the 1000-free in the only qualifying time in the event in 10:57.99.  She was also part of the 400-free relay team that put together a season-best time.  The team of Dix, Meghan Gallagher (Aston/Sun Valley), Frey, and McIlmoyle finished third overall in 3:44.68, an improvement of .53 seconds.
