Huskies Preseason Update: Offense (Video)

VIDEO INTERVIEWS
Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line coach Brian McBryan  |  Interim Defensive Coordinator Chet Henicle

The Bloomsburg Huskies football team continues to practice for the upcoming season and its opener against Stonehill at Redman Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. BUHuskies.com continues its season outlook series this week by focusing on the Huskies' work both offensively and defensively - both videos are available by clicking the links above.

Bloomsburg will scrimmage this Saturday afternoon August 31 at 2:30 p.m. at Redman Stadium in continued preparation for the season opener.

The Huskies were selected second in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches' Poll earlier this month, earning one first-place vote. Bloomsburg finished 10-2 including a 6-1 mark in the PSAC a season ago and earned the school's ninth NCAA Playoff berth.

The Huskies enter the new campaign under new leadership following the retirement of legendary head coach Danny Hale. Hale retires after leading the Huskies for the past 20 seasons, capturing 11 outright or shared PSAC Eastern Division titles and eight NCAA postseason appearances. He finishes his career with 213 wins, second-most in PSAC history to East Stroudsburg's Denny Douds (237). Longtime defensive coordinator Paul Darragh has assumed the reigns as interim head coach and leads a talented roster which returns more than 40 letterwinners from last season including five starters on offense and six on defense.

The Huskies will return a similar offensive scheme to the one which produced the fifth-ranked rushing offense in Division II at 315.75 yards per game last year. Bloomsburg set the PSAC single-season rushing record with 3,789 yards a year ago behind the leadership of a dominant offensive line and the talents of senior tailback Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West). Quiteh, a 2012 Harlon Hill finalist, was Division II's leading rusher a year ago with 178.6 yards per outing. With 5,328 career rushing yards he enters the season 361 yards shy of the conference rushing record. Among the key figures opening the running lanes are senior offensive linemen Chris Steck, Matt Feiler and Brian Clarke, a 2013 pre-season All-American selection by The Sporting News.

Defensively, a trio of All-PSAC East honorees in linemen Larry Webster and Chris Kennedy along with linebacker Justin Shirk  headlines the returners. Webster, a former basketball standout at Bloomsburg, made a tremendous splash in his football debut last year with 13.5 sacks, second-most in the conference. Kennedy posted 36 tackles and three sacks in his third season as a starter while Shirk racked up 93 tackles during his sophomore season.

Four-year starter Dan Fisher controls the Bloomsburg kicking game. A pre-season Fred Mitchell Award watch list selection, Fisher enters the season needing four field goals to tie the all-time conference record of 50 and also stands just 18 points away from the PSAC record for kicking points in a career (287).
