Caruso Sets School Record at the Gulden Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS

LEWISBURG—Kaylee Caruso (Montoursville/Montoursville) set a school record in the triple jump to lead the Bloomsburg University women's indoor track and field team on Saturday at the Gulden Invitational at Bucknell University.

Caruso, a freshman, jumped 10.84 meters (35' 6 ¾") to break one of the older marks in the Huskies record book. The record was held by Kristin Wirth at 35' 4 ¾" and was set back in 1993. Caruso's mark also improved her PSAC qualifying mark.

In addition to the school record Caruso qualified for the PSAC championships in the long jump with a mark of 5.08 meters (16' 8'). Also posting a new PSAC qualifying time in the mile was Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH/Hudson) who ran 5:23.60 to take sixth overall.

In the 400-meter dash Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) improved her PSAC qualifying time with a finish of 1:00.66.

A few other performances of note was a fourth place finish for Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) in the 1000-meter run in 3:04.25, while in the high jump Joselyn Estrada Pascual (Milton/Milton) was second with a mark of 1.59 meters (5'2 ½").

Head coach Bernie Empie talked about the meet.

"The competitiveness increased  from last week as did the field which included mostly DI and two other PSAC squads (Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg)," said Empie. "Despite our being thin in numbers compared to the field, the women totaled 38 points and topped PSAC defending champs Shippensburg and narrowly falling short to East Stroudsburg.  The men's field included defending PSAC Champs Shippensburg and Patriot League champs Bucknell."

"Overall it was a disjointed week of training because of the weather, and classes starting---but we will look at what we need to do better," Empie continued. "I'm confident next week we will rebound for the next meet at Bucknell."
