STORYLINEThe Huskies look to build upon their three-game win streak and improve upon their newly-acquired national ranking.
LAST MEETINGLast year at Bloomsburg the Raiders defended their home turf by dominating the Huskies in a 6-0 win. Shippensburg scored four times in the second half, and altogether had five different goal scorers. Fred Lucas tallied two goals in his team's win. Bloomsburg tallied five shots, two on goal.
Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) made six saves in the loss.
SCOUTING SHIPPENSBURGWhile Shippensburg's record doesn't quite show it, it has been putting lots of shots on the opposing net. They have outshot opponents 226-201, but have surrendered as many goals as they've scored (20). Offensively they lean on Robert Furaro, a sophomore forward. He leads the team with three goals and is tied for the team lead in points with seven. In goal, sophomore Evan Raimist has played every minute of his 14 starts. He has allowed 20 goals and made 75 saves.
LAST TIME OUTOn Wednesday, the Huskies continued their winning ways, defeating Millersville 2-0 on Senior Night in Bloomsburg. Early in the second half,
Josh Smith (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) opened the scoring with a header off a set piece from
James Kiama (Shippensburg/Shippensburg). In the 60th minute the Huskies would find the back of the net again, when
Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) would give
Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) a big lead pass behind the defense. Cerda was able to control the big bounce, and bury it in the lower right corner for the only other goal in the game. Freshman
Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) made four saves for Bloomsburg.
FRESHMAN PLAYING BIGJared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) is playing well beyond his years in net for Bloomsburg this year. On Wednesday he recorded his seventh shutout of the season.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPSThe Huskies have allowed only surrendered 14 goals in 15 games, the best overall in the PSAC.
CRACKING THE TOP 25For the first time since 2002, the Huskies are in the NSCAA Top 25. They are sitting at No. 25, and along with No. 11 Mercyhurst, are the only two PSAC schools to be nationally ranked.
