MATCH NOTES

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will participate in the NWCA National Duals at St. John Arena at Ohio State University Feb. 16-17. The Huskies will open with 11th-ranked Oklahoma University at
3 p.m. The winner will face either Illinois or Central Michigan. The other schools competing at the NWCA Duals are Minnesota, Iowa State, Ohio State, Cornell, Kent State, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Chattanooga, North Dakota State, Oregon State, Hofstra and Central Michigan. Each team is guaranteed two matches.

The Huskies extended their winning streak to three straight matches as they rolled past George Mason, 36-3, on senior day at the Nelson Field House on Sunday, Feb. 9. Bloomsburg won nine of the 10 bouts on the day, including a pin by Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) at 174 pounds for his 100th career win.

Bloomsburg battled with Oklahoma at the start of the season a the Oklahoma/Brockport Classic in Brockport, NY. The Huskies finished second to the Sooners in the team competition. The Huskies Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) was named the tournament's OW after upsetting then No.1-ranked Kendric Maple of OU at 149 pounds. The other top match at that event was a battle between BU's Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and OU's Travis Rutt with Rutt handing Perry his only loss of the season in the finals, 8-2. At 133 pounds the Huskies Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) will also look to avenge a 15-8 loss to Cody Brewer (ranked 8th this week).  Among the Huskies with wins over OU wrestlers are 165 pounder Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) who beat Clark Glass, 4-1, and J285 pounder Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) who posted a 9-7 win over Zach Merrill.
