BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's track and field team hopes to cap its indoor season with a strong performance in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championships at Bucknell University this Saturday and Sunday.

Originally scheduled to be hosted at Edinboro University, the conference meet was relocated to Bucknell because of heating issues with the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome where the Indoor Championships have been held in recent years.

Two years ago, the Huskies recorded the best finish in program history at the indoor championships with a seventh place score and an eighth place finish a year ago. The Huskies hope to improve upon that finish this season.

"We're hoping to at least equal or better our performance from a year ago at the conference meet," head coach Bernie Empie said. "We can certainly keep ourselves in the top 10 and hopefully move up a place or two in the standings."

One of the headliners at the championships for Bloomsburg is senior Jack Rosenstein (Shohola/Delaware Valley). The school record-holder in the weight throw, Rosenstein is an NCAA provisional qualifier in both events this season, ranking fourth in the PSAC in the shot put with a personal best of 15.66m / 51'4.5" and sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 17.15m / 56'3.25" this year.

"He's looking to get back to form from earlier season big throws in the biggest meet of the season," Empie said. "He's poised to finish high in both events and be a major contributor to point total for us."

Junior Kyle Phillips (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) is ranked third in the mile this season among all PSAC competitors with a season-best time of 4:19.19 and also is currently just outside the scoring in the 800 meters and has hopes of landing on the podium in both events.

Freshman Griffin Schwab (Tatamy/Nazareth Area) has set a number of PRs in his Huskies debut and ranks tied fourth in the PSAC this season in the high jump with a personal best of 6'6.75".
In the long jump, senior Cole Parkinson (Boyerstown /St. Pius X) qualified with a personal best of 6.71m / 22'0.25", while Robert Lee (Mercersburg/James Buchanan) also qualified for the conference meet with a leap of 6.50m / 21'4".

The Huskies will seek extra points in the distance medley relay, 4x4 and 4x8.

"These always prove to be interesting events at the conference meet because what you ran during the season isn't necessarily indicative of what you are ready to run," Empie said. "We know that is the case for us and the rest of the conference. We can pick up a few more points to bump our total in those events."

Senior Jessie Mustapha (Philadelphia/University City) is only two meets into his 2014 campaign, but brings experience in conference meets. Mustapha is the school record-holder in the 400 and adds a jolt to the Huskies in the long sprints as well as a strong addition to the 4x4. Senior Zach Eyer (Berwick/Berwick Area) has been a mainstay in the middle distance throughout his career and Empie says the Huskies will be counting on his experience and leadership in the relays.

Freshman Stephen Brooks (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) also qualified in the 60-meter hurdles with a best of 8.72 and could feature into the equation during finals on Sunday.

Events begin at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday and extend through the evening. Competition re-opens on Sunday with the awards ceremony tentatively scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
