Men's Tennis Seeks Strong Start To Spring With Trip West

STORYLINE
The Huskies will open the spring portion of the team's season with two matches against PSAC opponents Mercyhurst and Edinboro. Bloomsburg will feature several new players in the lineup, including Division I transfer Jean-Paul Jones.
 
LAST TIME OUT
(Box Score) To conclude the fall 2013 season, the Huskies lost 8-1 to University of the Sciences at home. Brayden Shipman (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) was the lone victor for the Huskies, while Denis Ikejiri (Santana de Parnaiba/Makenzie Tambori) forced three sets in a losing effort.
 
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
The Lakers come into this matchup with a 3-2 record on the season with their last victory coming in an 8-1 defeat of West Liberty. Connor McCooey and Robert Rizea lead Mercyhurst with 7-2 and 6-2 singles records, respectively. On the doubles end, the tandem of Daniel Giminez and Connor McCooey own a record of 3-2.
 
SCOUTING EDINBORO
The Fighting Scots have some momentum coming into this match, winning two of their last three including their last match of the fall over John Carroll and a dominating 9-0 performance over West Liberty earlier in the spring portion. Amir Talab leads Edinboro with a 5-3 singles record, while Matias Aignasse has posted a 2-0 record so far. In doubles, James Cooper and Thomas Pellegrino own a 3-2 record.

(Box Score) The Lakers defeated the Huskies 8-1 on Oct. 6, 2012. The duo of Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) and Brayden Shipman (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) scored the lone victory for Bloomsburg at number one in doubles.
 
(Box Score) Bloomsburg fell to the Fighting Scots of Edinboro by a score of 7-2 on Oct. 5, 2012. Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) and Brayden Shipman (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) scored an 8-4 win at number one doubles. DiSanto tallied another victory at number one singles, winning by a score of 4-6, 7-3, 10-7.
 
SHIPMAN AND DiSANTO NAMED CAPTAINS
Senior Brayden Shipman (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) and junior Mike DiSanto (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) have been named captains by coach Marty Coyne. Shipman has a 2-1 singles record on the season while DiSanto has posted a mark of 0-4. DiSanto has picked up two doubles wins this season, pairing with Denis Ikejiri (Santana de Parnaiba/Makenzie Tambori).

The Huskies will continue play over Spring Break, headed to Hilton Head, S.C. from March 16-20.
