BLOOMSBURG – A pair of Bloomsburg University football products recently turned heads at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis as both offensive tackle
Matt Feiler (Strasburg/Lampeter-Strasburg) and defensive end
Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) turned in impressive showings among some of the top draft eligible talent in the nation.
Webster earned national attention by posting the second-fastest 40-yard dash time of any defensive lineman at the combine. Webster's 40-yard dash mark of 4.58 seconds was second only to consensus top 10 pick Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina.
The former basketball standout also was fifth among all defensive linemen in the vertical jump at 36.5 inches.
The school's all-time leader in blocked shots during a standout career on the hardwood for the Huskies, Webster turned to football before the 2012 season and recorded 26 sacks in only 24 career games while leading the nation in sack yardage this year.
Feiler posted a strong showing in the bench press, tying for second with 36 repetitions along with Tyler Larsen of Utah State, Corey Linsley of Ohio State and Antonio Richardson of Tennessee. Only Russell Bodine of North Carolina had more repetitions. Scouts praised him for his size and upper-body strength and ability to steer blockers.
Â
Feiler was an Associated Press Little All-America selection and also earned an All-American nod from the
Don Hansen Football Gazette. He helped pave the way for the Huskies to rush for 3,762 yards as a team this season, a total which ranked fifth in Division II, and finished his Huskies career starting every game after taking over a starting role before the 2011 season. The Strasburg native moved from guard to tackle in 2012 and earned All-PSAC East first team accolades the past two years.
Â
Both players were key to the Huskies 2013 PSAC Championship and an NCAA Division II playoff berth.
Â
This year marked the first time multiple Bloomsburg players have been invited to the NFL Combine. Bloomsburg was the only Division II program to have multiple athletes invited to this year's combine.
Â
The 2014 NFL Draft takes place May 8-10.
