Men's Soccer Team Wins Third Straight

Box Score BOX SCORE (HTML)

BLOOMSBURG—For the second time in three games the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team scored five goals this time on its way to a 5-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday night at Steph Pettit Stadium. The win was the third in-a-row for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg wasted little time getting on the board scoring in the eighth minute. Josh Smith (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) stole the ball just outside the box then passed it to a cutting Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) who drilled the ball to the right corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies made it 2-0 in the 18th minute when Mike Bamford (Doylestown/Central Bucks West), on a throw-in, threw a strike across the field where Roma Laboda headed the ball in. Bloomsburg stretched its lead to 3-0 about six minutes later when Cameron Cleary (Pleasanton, CA/Amador Valley) took a pass from Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) and used his left foot to send the ball past the UPJ goalie.

Then just before halftime Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem/Bensalem) scored unassisted to make it 4-0. On a scramble in front of the box Kilcoyne gathered the ball and easily pushed it in for his first goal of the season. In the first half the Huskies held the Mountain Cats without a shot.

Early in the second half a defensive mixup led to UPJ's first goal. On a pass back to goalie Jacob Pesarcik (Whitehall/Whitehall) UPJ's Matt Kinney was able to get in and come up with the ball and put the shot into the net.  But that would be it for Pitt-Johnstown.

The Huskies defense allowed just four more shots for the game with Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) getting the final goal after picking up a missed shot from teammate James Kiama (Shippensburg/Shippensburg).

Bloomsburg totaled 18 shots to just five for UPJ and held an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.

In the team's three match winning streak the Huskies have outscored its opponents, 13-2.

UPJ falls to 0-5, 0-2 in the PSAC, while Bloomsburg is now 3-1-1, 2-0 in the PSAC. The Huskies visit East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
