Women's Soccer Team Falls in Season Opener

CLARION—The Clarion Golden Eagles scored in the 89th minute and beat the Bloomsburg University Huskies women's soccer team 1-0 in the season opener for both teams.
 
The Huskies dominated the stat sheet getting off 20 shots, nine on goal, while limiting Clarion to just nine shots, seven of them on goal. In the opening seven minutes of play Bloomsburg controlled the action and had five shots on the goal, but did not score. In the first 45 minutes of play the Huskies posted nine shots to just three for the Golden Eagles.
 
In the second half the Huskies continued to control play with 11 shots and two corner kicks to just six and two for the Golden Eagles. Clarion, though, finally broke through just 1:59 to play when Katie Chambers scored off a McKenzie Sheesley assist.
 
In goal the Huskies Daniele Fiorelli stopped six shots, while Clarion's Laura Saussol posted the shutout stopping nine shots.
 
Bloomsburg, 0-1, will host IUP in its home opener on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
