BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team dropped its home opener to IUP on Saturday night at Steph Pettit Stadium by a score of 1-0. The start of the game was delayed 90 minutes due to a strong thunderstorm that moved through the area.

Following the weather delay the teams played evenly through the first 26 minutes of action with the Huskies holding a slight 3-2 edge in shots. In the 29th minute of play IUP's Brittney Kuhns broke the left side and was dribbling towards the goal where she was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty shot.

On the penalty shot Kuhns shot was blocked by Huskies goalkeeper Megan Deak (West Islip, NY/West Islip), but bounced away from her. Kuhns then came in and put the ball into the next for the score, her third of the season.

In the second half of play the Huskies held the edge in shots (7-3) and corner kicks (3-1), but could not reach the back of the next. In the final minutes Bloomsburg did put a push on towards the goal with Sierra Fortunato (Kennett Square/Unionville) getting off the Huskies last shot with 26 seconds to play with IUP's Jessica Printz making the stop. From there the Crimson Hawks cleared the ball and ran the clock ran out.

With the win IUP goes to 2-0, 2-0 in the PSAC, while Bloomsburg drops to 0-2, 0-2 in the PSAC. The Huskies will host Gannon on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
