Stu Marvin feel the team has the talent to contend for a conference championship. "We're very excited for the start of the season," said Marvin, the 2014-15 PSAC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.
Â
Senior Class Made the Difference"It was this class of swimmers that turned things around for us," Marvin continued. "It took four years of recruiting classes to bring the men's and women's teams together as one unit. The men and women have grown up together. They practice together, they share everything. It's been great. They've been the catalysts that turned our program around."
Â
As a team the women have seen the brass ring, coming in second last year, they can taste it this year. It is such an even matchup and if everything goes to plan, it might just come down to relays"
Â
Returning Standouts"
Caroline Hodgins (Schwenksville, PA) made an immediate impact for us," said Marvin. "She fit right in with us last year. She has a great work ethic. Her versatility this year will help us since she's going to fill in at the butterfly after Rachel (Brooker) graduated."
Â
"Also,
Ashley Dix (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) and
Meghan Gallagher (Aston/Sun Valley) are the core of our sprint group," Marvin continued. "They are right there together. Plus,
Alex Wheatley (Dresher/Upper Dublin) is also strong in the backstroke with our medley relay team just missing out on NCAA's."
Â
Balanced Lineup"We're pretty well balanced," Marvin continued. "Caroline and
Brooke Gilson (Whitehall/Whitehall) will handle distance for us. We're solid in sprints.
Nikki Young (Trooper/Methacton) has the breast stroke locked down for us. Our only chink in the armour will be in the butterfly."
Â
"We will need some of our sophomores this year to step up. They've been to PSAC's and understand how things work. We need them to step up and score some points for us. We only had 12 of our 18 swimmers earn points last year. If we can get about 30 more points we'll be right there at the end this year."
Â
"Plus, we have several freshmen, including
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville), who is very talented in the backstroke and IM. Once our freshmen adjust to everything going on they are going to be good."
The Huskies will open the 2015-16 regular season on Friday night at 6 p.m. at West Chester with Lehigh.
