LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Redshirt sophomore cornerback
Dexter Jordan (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) of the Bloomsburg University football team has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
It marks the first time in Jordan's career that he has earned a weekly honor from the league and it is the fourth time this season that a Huskies' player has claimed a weekly award as he joins senior
Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, N.Y./Thomas R. Proctor) (Offensive Player of the Week vs Clarion), redshirt sophomore
Ryan Abbott (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James School) (Special Teams Player of the Week at Cheyney), and senior
Will Wagner (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) (Special Teams Player of the Week vs Millersville) as winners this season.
Jordan picked off East Stroudsburg quarterback Tim DiGiorgio twice on Saturday during the Huskies' 35-14 victory over the visiting Warriors. His second interception of the day resulted in a 42-yard return for a touchdown - the first of his collegiate career. It was also the first time in a Bloomsburg uniform that he had picked off more than one pass in a game.
He helped the Huskies limit East Stroudsburg to 342 yards of total offense - nearly 100 yards below its season average. He added two solo tackles in the three-touchdown victory.
With his two interceptions on Saturday, Jordan is now tied with Kutztown's Jake Perry for tops in the PSAC with five interceptions. He also ranks second in the league with 105 interception return yards and is tied for sixth in total passes defended with eight.
Jordan and the Huskies return to action on Saturday, October 29, when they travel to Lock Haven University to take on the Bald Eagles. Kickoff from Hubert Jack Stadium is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
