Wrestling Team Competes at Boilermaker Duals

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team competed on Sunday at the Boilermaker Duals at Purdue University winning one and dropping two matches. The Huskies beat Indianapolis, 20-12, while falling to Northern Illinois, 23-12, and Purdue, 26-6. Two wrestlers, Matt Noble (Bridgewater, NJ/DePaul Catholic (NJ)) and Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) were both two-time winners for Bloomsburg.

The day started with the Bloomsburg Huskies wrestling the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Huskies. After NIU opened with a win at 125 lbs., the BU Huskies won back-to-back matches to go up 6-3. Matt Noble (Bridgewater, NJ/DePaul Catholic (NJ)) got the winning started for Bloomsburg with a 5-3 win, while Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) posted a 7-6 win at 141 lbs.
 
NIU, though won the next six bouts, four of them by three points or less, to go up 23-6. Bloomsburg's Bo Spiller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) closed out the match winning by fall in 3:58.

Against Purdue the Huskies fell behind 11-0 before Kevin Laubach (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) got a late takedown to post a 4-2 win at 149 lbs. Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) followed Laubach's win with his own win by decision, 6-3 at 157 lbs. to make it 11-6. The Boilermakers though closed the match winning the final five bouts to post a 26-6 win.

In the match with Indy, WIlly Girard got the Huskies out to an early 3-0 lead when he won 9-6 at 125 lbs. Noble then followed with a win by major decision making it 7-0 in favor of the Huskies. After an Indy win at 141 and 149, Colbert posted an 8-0 win at 157 lbs to make it an 11-6 match. Bloomsburg then sealed the match with wins by Reid Stanley (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale), Trevor Allard (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and Tyler Worthing (New Kensington, Pa/Kiski Area) for a 20-6 edge. 

Bloomsburg, now 3-2 on the year, will host Northwestern on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
