Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) finished fourth at 157 pounds to lead the Bloomsburg University wrestling team at the 2016 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships on Saturday at Lock Haven University.

Colbert went 2-2 on the day to finish as a placewinner, while
Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) at 133 pounds missed by one match of being a placewinner after going 1-2 on the day.

As a team the Huskies finished seventh, while Rider won the team title.

Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area), seeded fourth, opened the day with an 11-3 win over Roshaun Cooley of Clarion. Schutz recorded four takedowns and added a point for riding time to get the win by major decision.

In the semifinals Schutz faced off with top-seed Robert Deutsch of Rider. Deutsch got a first period takedown going in for a single leg shot. Schutz worked out of the hold to trail 2-1 after one period. In the second period Deutsch got another takedown, the got a point on a stall warning. Schutz then escaped to make it 5-2 after two period. In the third Schutz chose down to start and escaped to make it 5-3. Then late in the period Schutz shot in for a takedown attempt tying up Deutsch, but he could not finish the move as time ran out. With riding time Deutsch win 6-3.

In the consolation semifinals Schutz battled with Vincent Rodriguez of George Mason. Early in the bout the wrestlers were battling for a takedown, but ended up out of bounds with no score. Rodriguez then cam back with a takedown to lead 2-0 after one period. Rodriguez started on bottom to start the second and escaped to lead 3-0. He then followed with a takedown to go on top 5-0. Schutz did get an escape before the period ended and trailed 5-1 after two. There was no scoring in the third ending Schutz's season with a 5-1 loss.

Sam Holandez (Carson, Ca./Carson) faced second seeded Mike Carlone of Cleveland State in his opening bout. Carlone scored an early takedown of Holandez and then rode the sophomore building up riding time. Carlone then was able to turn Holandez and scored the quick win by fall in 2:00.

In the consolation round Holandez lost to the three-seed Paul Kirchner of Rider, 20-3 to get eliminated.

Ryan Snow (Dexter, NY/General Brown) matched up with three-seed Bryant Clagon of Rider in the quarterfinals. Clagon got a quick takedown followed by a pin in 28 seconds.

Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) faced off with four seed Aaron McKinney. Colbert scored two takedowns in the opening period and led 4-3 after one period. McKinney chose down to start the second period and worked an escape to tie the score at 4-4. Late in the period Colbert kept it 4-4 by escaping a single leg takedown attempt by McKinney. In the third period Colbert took down to start and got a reversal to go on top 6-4. After McKinney escaped to make it 6-5, Colbert was able to fight off McKinney's late takedown attempts, and with riding time, won 7-5.

In the semifinals against top-seed Chad Walsh of Rider, Walsh took the early lead with a takedown before Colbert got an escape with 20 seconds left in the first to trail 2-1 after one period. In the second Walsh was down to start and escaped to go up 3-1. Later he got a single leg takedown to go on top 5-1. In the third, with Colbert starting down, Walsh was able to turn Colbert and picked up four near fall points. With riding time he won 10-1.

Colbert came back and won in the consolation semifinals picking up a 9-4 win over Jake Keller of Clarion. In the consolation final (third place match) Colbert fell to Gregory Flournoy of George Mason, 10-3.

Mathew Carr (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) faced off with two-seed Casey Fuller of Edinboro. Carr held off Fuller's scoring attempts for the first minute before Fuller got a takedown then scored a win by fall in 2:51. In the consolation round Carr lost by fall to Patrick Davis of George Mason by fall in 1:47.

Casey Glunt (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) drew top seed Michael Pavasko of Clarion in his first match. Pavasko controlled the match, but did not dominate. Glunt went the distance with Pavasko getting three escapes, but lost 8-3. In the consolation round he fell to Curt Delia of Rider, 15-6.

Kyle Wojtaszek (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) opened up with top-seed Vic Avery of Edinboro and lost by technical fall, 17-1. In the consolation round he fell to Xavier Dye of Cleveland State by technical fall, 19-0.

Dominic Carfagno (West Paterson, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) lost his opening round match to the four seed Vince Pickett of Edinboro, 12-1. Carfagno was eliminated from action in the consolation semifinals by Phil Sprenkle of Lock Haven by an 8-3 score.

Saul Wilkins (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR) opened the day losing to the second seed, Riley Shaw of Cleveland State, 4-0, then got eliminated with a loss to Brad Emerick of Lock Haven, 7-1.
