HTML Box ScoreBLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team clinched a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a 9-0 win over visiting Kutztown University on Tuesday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Huskies improved to 5-7 overall and finished the conference regular season with a 3-2 mark and will be the third seed in the playoffs later this month. The Golden Bears fell to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Bloomsburg swept doubles competition to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. Seniors
Steve Williams (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) and
Scott Langenbach (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) won by default at #3 to get the Huskies on the board. Junior
Pablo Herrero (Puerto de la Cruz, Spain/British School Tenerife) and freshman
Dhir Gala (Mumbai, India/Mithibaii) teamed up for an 8-3 win at #1 over Kutztown's team of Joan Oliver Perez and Gabriel Nogara Souza. That was followed closely by an 8-4 win at #2 by the Huskies' pair of junior
Gerard Puig (Sabadell, Spain/Juame Viladoms) and senior
Nenyi Micah (Allentown/William Allen).
More of the same occurred in singles competition with all five completed matches won by the Huskies in straight sets. Senior
Gilberto Machado (Puerto de la Cruz, Cananary Islands/International British Yeoward School) claimed a default win at #6 to give the Huskies a 4-0 lead. Freshman
Pedro Andari (Mogi dos Cruzes, Spain/Santa Monica) clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #5 singles.
Gala, Herrero, freshman
Leonardo Nakasone (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Enig), and Puig closed out the sweep with victories at #2, #1, #4, and #3 respectively.
The Huskies will make the short trip to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. match at Bucknell University.
