HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over visiting Caldwell University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Huskies improved to 6-8 overall while the Cougars dropped to 6-7 on the season.
Seniors
Steve Williams (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) and
Scott Langenbach (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) got the ball rolling with an 8-2 victory at #3 doubles to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. Bloomsburg's other two pairings needed to put some extra work in, but were able to complete the sweep in doubles competition to give the Huskies a 3-0 advantage heading to singles play.
Junior
Gerard Puig (Sabadell, Spain/Juame Viladoms) and senior
Nenyi Micah (Allentown/William Allen) trailed 6-5 in their match at #2 doubles but won the final three games to claim an 8-6 victory. Meanwhile, freshman
Dhir Gala (Mumbai, India/Mithibaii) and junior
Pablo Herrero (Puerto de la Cruz, Spain/British School Tenerife) trailed 7-6 and 8-7 before rallying to send the match to a tiebreaker. The Huskies' duo won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to post the 9-8 win at #1.
Freshman
Pedro Andari (Mogi dos Cruzes, Spain/Santa Monica) gave the Huskies a 4-0 advantage with a default win over Andrej Bozovic at #5. Andari won the first set, 6-0, before claiming the default victory. After Caldwell's Maximilian Ziegler defeated Herrero at #1 in straight sets, Williams clinched the match for the Huskies with a straight-sets victory at #6 over Pedro Vizcaino - 6-2, 6-2.
Gala collected the Huskies' other singles victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #2 over Alberto Gasco. Gala, in his rookie campaign, leads the Huskies with a 10-6 mark in singles action this season.
The Huskies will entertain Wilkes University on Sunday, April 24, at the Burt Reese Tennis Center and will honor their seniors -
