ERIE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's swimming team won its third consecutive dual meet on Saturday afternoon as it held off Gannon University, 144-117, at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool, to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Golden Knights dropped to 1-2 on the year.
Redshirt sophomore
Matt Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had a big afternoon to lead the Huskies as he finished with a pair of individual victories and was also part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team. Freshman
Colton Schnars (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) earned an individual victory and was also part of the 400-yard medley relay team that captured first on Saturday. Senior
Philip Nawn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) had the only other individual victory of the day.
The Huskies also finished with 28 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks on the afternoon.
Rocchi earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.06, just over two-tenths of a second better than sophomore
Noah Cancro (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) who finished with a time of 1:01.30. Rocchi later swept the breaststroke events as he won the 200-yard distance after touching the wall in 2:19.33 - four-tenths of a second faster than Cancro who, again, was second.
Schnars collected his victory in the 100-yard backstroke as he won with a time of 52.38. Nawn, meanwhile, posted his win in the 100-yard butterfly after touching the wall in 51.82 - four-tenths of a second faster than freshman teammate
Jace Fry (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin) who placed second.
Bloomsburg relay victories book-ended the meet as the Huskies won both the 400-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle events. In the meet-opening race, Schnars, Rocchi, redshirt junior
Kyle Dix (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), and junior
Jordan Wyant (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) teamed up for a time of 3:31.53 in the 400-yard medley relay. The final event of the meet saw the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dix, sophomore
Collin Hummel (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), junior
Colin Bauer (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and Wyant post a time of 1:25.49 to out-touch Gannon's "A" foursome by six-tenths of a second.
The 200-yard freestyle relay time posted by the Huskies marked the fastest in the conference this season and is the 17th-best mark in all of Division II thus far. It also established a new Gannon pool record.
Bloomsburg will return home to take on Clarion University at the Nelson Field House Pool on Friday, November 9. Start time of the meet is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
