ERIE, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team dropped their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at regionally-ranked Edinboro 7-2 on Friday night (Mar. 23).
The Huskies won one of three doubles matches, before taking one of six matches in singles play.
The tandem of
Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) and
Nagid Walle (Nassau, Bahamas/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) fell to Vitor Albanese and Mateus Santos 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while
Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and
Rafael Rufato (Sao Paulo, Brazil/OCEU Positivo) fell to Daniel Fernandez and Kevin Mboko 8-3 at No. 2.
Guillermo Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Colegio Hispalense) and
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/FJLS) captured the lone win in doubles play for BU, defeating Mauricio Santos and Christian Roettger 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles play, Albanese defeated Pedrotti 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, while Abreu fell to Fernandez 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Walle fell to Mauricio Santos at No. 3 6-4, 6-2, before Carranza lost to Mateus Santos 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 4.
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) beat Roettger at No. 5 singles 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 for the Huskies lone singles win. Luetzig fell to Mboko at No. 6 singles 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 to close out the match.
The win moves Edinboro, the fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic region to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC, while Bloomsburg falls to 2-5 and 0-1 in the PSAC.
The Huskies are back in action tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, Mar. 24) when they take on No. 49 Mercyhurst. The match begins at 12:00 p.m.
