KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Competing in her first collegiate heptathlon, freshman
Alexis Burd (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) finds herself in ninth place after day one of the ninth annual Mondschein Multi, hosted by Kutztown University.
Due to the largest field in the event's history - 24 teams and 73 competitors (combined men and women) - the event was broken into three sections - gold, maroon, and white. Burd currently sits in ninth place in the Gold Section after four events with a total of 1759 total points.
Utica's Shannon Gleason leads the section with a total of 2221 points, just ahead of Slippery Rock's Asia Broadus who has 2125 points through four events.
The day started with the freshman placing ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.90 and a total of 311 points. Burd then finished eighth in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.43 meters - good for another 544 points to her total.
In the shot put, Burd finished ninth with a throw of 6.88 meters and an additional 327 points. She finished the day with a time of 28.70 in the 200-meter dash to place fifth overall in that event and collect another 577 points.
Three more events are on tap for Burd on Friday as she will compete in the long jump, the javelin, and the 800-meter run. Friday's action is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
