BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team fell to top-seeded Mercyhurst 5-0 in the semifinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Team Championships on Friday (Apr. 20) at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The Huskies were blanked in the race to five, as Mercyhurst swept doubles play and got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to clinch the win.
Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) and
Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) fell at No. 1 doubles 8-4, before
Guillermo Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Colegio Hispalense) and
Nagid Walle (Nassau, Bahamas/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) dropped their No. 2 match 8-6.
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/FJLS) and
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) fell at No. 3 doubles 9-8 (6).
Pedrotti fell at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 before Abreu was defeated at No. 2 6-3, 6-2 which ended the match.
Mercyhurst advances to the tournament final tomorrow (Apr. 21) where they will take on No. 2 seed Edinboro, after the Fighting Scots defeated Kutztown 5-1. The Lakers move to 15-2 with the win, while Bloomsburg falls to 5-9.
The Huskies will learn of their postseason fate in the following days after the championships.
