SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Senior
Hannah Boudreau (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) became a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the 10000-meter run on Thursday night as she highlighted day one of the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Championships at the William Lennox Track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
Boudreau gave the Huskies ten points in the overall team standings and Bloomsburg finds itself in fourth place through in the opening stages of the conference championships. Millersville currently leads with 27 points through two events scored.
Boudreau ran a sensational race as she stayed among the top four through the first 17 laps before making her move with eight laps to go. The senior then passed a pair of Seton Hill runners with six laps remaining and she never relinquished the lead as she won the race by just over eight seconds over Seton Hill's Sarah Taylor and ten seconds over Seton Hill's Caitlyn Padgett. Boudreau finished with a time of 38:05.76 as she won the event for the second time in her collegiate career. As a freshman at the 2015 conference championships, Boudreau claimed her first PSAC title in that distance with a time of 37:02.19.
The title marks her third career PSAC Championship as she also claimed a victory in the 3000-meter run at the 2017 Indoor Championships at Edinboro University.
The finals of the hammer throw and the opening four events of the heptathlon were also held on Thursday.
In the hammer throw, seniors
Rachael Sullivan (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and
Hannah Masenheimer (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) competed for the Huskies. Sullivan placed 11th overall with a long mark of 43.62 meters while Masenheimer was unable to mark in three attempts on Thursday.
Freshman
Alexis Burd (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) totaled 1811 points through the first four events of the heptathlon and finds herself in 15th place with the final three events to be held on Friday. Burd placed 15th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.90 and then tied for 13th in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.35 meters. She took 14th in the shot put with a mark of 6.75 meters and then finished strong with an eighth-place result in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.99.
The final three events of the heptathlon (long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run) are slated to get underway at 10:15 a.m. on Friday. The first non-decathlon event gets underway at 12:00 p.m. on Friday with the finals of the women's high jump. Track events begin at 1:15 p.m. with the preliminaries of the 4x100-meter relay.
