COMPLETE FRIDAY RESULTS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's outdoor track and field team broke two school records and had five All-Conference performances during day two of action at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships at the William Lennox Track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
Bloomsburg is currently in a tie for fifth place in the overall team standings with a total of 28 points. Shippensburg leads the overall standings with a total of 59 points - nine points ahead of second-place Millersville.
Both of the Huskies' school records came during preliminaries in the 4x100-meter relay and the 400-meter dash. It took 36 years for the 4x100-meter relay record to be broken but now it has occurred twice in the last ten days. The foursome of freshman
Jessica Brenfleck (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), freshman
Kathleen Stevenson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), senior
Sarah Gottschalk (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), and senior
Carli Dedics (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) posted a time of 48.57 during qualifications on Friday - besting the record by nearly two-tenths of a second (48.76) the same quartet posted at the Penn Relays back on April 26. However, the time was just short of making Saturday's finals as IUP's team posted a time of 48.55 to claim the eighth and final qualification spot.
Dedics then broke the second school record of the day with a time of 57.18 during preliminaries of the 400-meter dash. Her time was the second-fastest posting of the day and she will compete in the finals on Saturday. The previous school record was set by
Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) during the 2013 season as she ran a time of 57.39.
Bloomsburg got back into the scoring act with five All-PSAC performances on Friday - four of which came in the field events.
Senior
Amanda Simone (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tied Kutztown's McKenzie Fagan in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.65 meters. However, the Huskies' senior took more attempts during the day to get to that point which allowed Fagan to claim the PSAC title and to put Simone in the second position. Simone was the defending outdoor champion in the event after winning last year's PSAC title.
The Huskies scored eight more points in the long jump as junior
Kirsten O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and freshman
Kathleen Stevenson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. O'Malley hit a mark of 5.45 meters while Stevenson posted a jump of 5.39 meters as they both earned All-PSAC honors. The final All-PSAC performance in the field came from senior
Rachael Sullivan (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) who placed eighth in the discus with a best throw of 37.62 meters.
On the track, senior
Morgan Ilgenfritz (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) posted a personal-best time of 12:00.33 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to earn an eighth-place finish. She entered the event seeded 15th but was able to cut 18 seconds off of her seed time to sneak onto the podium.
Freshmen
Autumn Kaminski (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Stevenson also posted personal-best times on Friday but were unable to qualify for Saturday's finals in their events. Kaminski ran a 15.68 in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries for a 15th-place finish while Stevenson crossed the finish line in 25.36 in the 200-meter dash for an 11th-place result.
The final day of action gets underway on Saturday with the women's shot put and the women's pole vault at 11:00 a.m. Track events are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the finals of the 4x100-meter relay.
