TOURNAMENT CENTRAL PAGE

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team opened competition at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Saturday. The Huskies had three competitors in singles action and had one doubles team compete during day one of the two-day event.

Sophomores Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) and Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) each won their first round matches early Saturday afternoon but then were eliminated in the quarterfinal round later in the day. Pedrotti, who entered as the number two seed in the tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals after a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kutztown's Josh Carl. However, Pedrotti had his run in the tournament come to an end at the hands of Edinboro's Mateus Santos, 6-2, 7-5. Tauber, meanwhile, earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over West Chester's Adam Courtemanche in the opening round but then fell to Edinboro's Mauricio Santos, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.

Sophomore Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) was eliminated in the opening round after dropping a 6-2, 6-3 loss to top-seeded Cormac McCooey of Mercyhurst.

Pedrotti and sophomore Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Rogedo) took care of Mercyhurst's duo of Sebastian Pardo and Arseniy Skylarov in the opening round of doubles, 8-4, but then dropped an 8-3 decision to the Kutztown pair of Josh Carl and Nolan Perugini in the semifinals to thwart their chance at a conference title on Sunday morning.

The tournament will continue on Sunday morning with the doubles final getting underway at 9:00 a.m. The singles semifinals will go off at 10:45 a.m. with the singles final set to begin around 2:00 p.m.
